Easter day was a holiday |

Mamma went to the School wife house |

And knocked at the ring, |

Saying, "Little Sir William, if you are there, |
それからこう言った、「かわいいサー・ウィリアム、そこにいるのなら、 |

Pray let your mother in." |
ママを中に入れてちょうだい」 |

The School wife open'd the door and said: |
学校の女先生はドアを開けて言った： |

"He is not here today. |
「今日はここには来ていませんよ |
|
He is with the little schoolfellows out on the green |
草地に小さな仲間といます |

Playing some pretty play." |
楽しい遊びをしてます」 |

Mamma went to the Boyne water |

That is so wide and deep, |

Saying, "Little Sir William, if you are there, |

Oh pity your mother's weep." |

なんてことだろう、かわいいサー・ウィリアムは学校の女先生に殺されてしまった。
探し回る母親の嘆きを想像すると胸がつぶれる思いだ。
かわいいサー・ウィリアムは葬儀の準備を母親に頼む。

雷がひどく鳴った。
雨はそれほどひどくは降らなかったが、気温が下がって安心した。
ブリテンの民謡編曲集1-2 かわいいサー・ウィリアムを現在のスタイルにした。
民謡なのにギョッとする内容で不思議な思いがする。
曲は人懐こくていい。
